Digital Citizenship
We began our term with the staff discussing what digital citizenship meant to them. At our parent consultation evening they were asked for their viewpoints on "Digital Citizenship". Next we moved onto a hui for our Maori families and their input. This week we culminate our information gathering from parents with Board of Trustees input. Students will be able to add to what has been put forward before we finalise our document prior to the end of term.
Parents are expressing similar concerns to those voiced at a number of workshops at Learning @school : How do we strike a happy medium between being in the digital environment and physically being engaged with what is happening around us? Why are we forging so far ahead with IT in primary schools when our children don't get the same access as they transition up through the schooling levels? Isn't the gap only going to get greater if children grow up in homes where digital tools are not available? How will our schools cater for this group in particular?
